Laminate Flooring vs. Hardwood Flooring
Hardwood flooring is highly sought after for the beauty and value it adds to a home’s design. Laminate flooring provides that look at an approachable price. Many new homes today are able to be sold at a competitive price point by using laminate flooring that captures the beauty and mimics wood’s warm, natural character. So, while these two types of flooring may look identical in many ways, how do they stack up against one another?
Hardwood
- Made from a variety of trees specimens
- Susceptible to wear, scratching, and moisture damage all of which can add to the character of your home over time
- Most can be refinished to sand down imperfections, lasting for decades
Laminate
- Made from composite wood materials making it up to 50% less expensive to manufacture and install than hardwood
- Lighter weight and snaps together for easy installation
- Scratch-resistant, moisture-resistant and wear-resistant
- Easy to clean for quick spills, but not easy to repair if damaged
